Familyfriend is sooo yummy! The servers are so attentive and would check in to make sure everything is okay. The smash burger was delicious! I highly recommend it. :)
Familyfriend is a cute hole in the wall on beacon hill. They have a delicious smash burger, very friendly and attentive staff, with a cute backyard covered patio and nicely decorated sitting space inside. My favorite cocktail was the special with sparkling rose (forgot the name). I look forward to coming back and trying out other items on their menu!
I've seen plenty of posts claiming the best burger in Seattle is here at familyfriend and finally made my way out here to try it. I arrived 10-15 minutes before they opened on a rainy Saturday and was surprised that there was only 2 groups ahead of me in line. Street parking was pretty easy to find and the restaurant is quite small, so I would say expect to wait if you arrive after 5:30 PM. Corn Soup (4.25/5): Creamy, coconuty, and sweet from the corn. There is a slight savoriness from the chicken. Just a great balance of flavors and silky smooth texture. Kewpie Burger (4.25/5): I would definitely get this with two patties, otherwise the ratio of meat is insanely low to the carbs. It is probably the best smash burger I've ever had, fatty, tangy, and light crisp on the patties. The truffle fries are ELITE. Lightly beer battered which makes for a perfectly light and crispy texture. Overall, I'd say if you're expecting to be completely blown away, this place is a tad overrated. The prices are also pretty high for the portion sizes, but the food is genuinely better than the versions you might find elsewhere.
Amazing service and incredible food with unique flavors that highlight the Guamanian heritage. The corn soup was my favorite. The coconut milk makes it silky smooth, and there's a distinct achiote infused oil that gives it a peppery undertone. The chicken thigh, onion, and garlic added the perfect savory balance against the sweet, fresh corn. Kewpie burger and fries was absolutely fantastic. There's a mild savory kick from the miso and kewpie - honestly this should be a mainstay like "special sauce" for any burger! I guess this is one of the viral dishes here. It's great, but the other dishes take the prize. The shoestring like fries were absolutely delicious, made even better with the savory truffle oil. Absolutely addictive. The La Beacon Batchoy (La Paz style) came with egg noodles in a deep broth with some offal and fermented shrimp broth. The flavor was not as distinct or funky as I'd expected, so definitely it was playing it safe. Finally dessert - the lanabread was super delicious. A spin on latiya, the toppings took the show, with the vanilla custard cream adding an addictive contrast to the slightly sweetened and grilled banana bread and crunch plantains. The service was awesome, love the fun ambiance, and a great excuse to visit Beacon Hill area.
As someone familiar with authentic Chamorro food, it filled me with immense cultural pride to see our cuisine elevated to such a level. The food was phenomenal and the welcoming environment made me long for home.
I was excited to try Guamanian food! I've never tried it before and had heard that this is the best burger in Seattle. It's a small spot, nothing fancy in terms of ambiance. The food was honestly pretty pricey, with small portions. The appetizer I had was delicious, an interesting fusion of flavors I traditionally associate with Thai (coconut milk) and Mexican (fried sopes), all in one dish! It was fresh, warm, crispy, and flavorful. I was surprised that I liked it, given the interesting flavor combos and I'm not usually a huge fan of mustard greens, but I loved it! My friends tried the burger. They said it was good, with emphasis that the patty was really delicious, but wouldn't call it the best burger in Seattle. All in all, I think it's worth a try, but I'm not sure I'd come back due to the prices.
familyfriend is a small and cozy spot with bar, outdoor, and indoor seating in Beacon Hill that serves Asian food from rice bowls to kewpie smash burgers. My friend and I sat at the bar, and the bartender provided great service. Hospitality from all the employees who worked front of house was warm and friendly! Originally, I was super excited about this restaurant because of the reviews I read, but I didn't think it lived up to the hype. It's a great sit-down, fast-casual restaurant, but I was not impressed by anything in particular. Between the infamous burger and bulgogi rice bowl, I thought the rice bowl was more unique and the beef was well cooked. We also ordered the iced mango tea, which we thought was refreshing and was a great compliment to the greasier burger. Overall, I would recommend familyfriend as a great local spot to check out because there's a lot of raving reviews--especially for their kewpie burger! From my singular experience, it just wasn't my personal favorite.
familyfriend was so good and lived up to the hype! I came with three other people at 5:25pm on a Saturday night, and our wait was 1.5 hours. Luckily there are plenty of spots to grab drinks/pre-dinner snacks just down the street (fable, milk drunk) to kill some time. The restaurant itself doesn't have a ton of tables, so I'm sure that's why the wait can get so long. Food was great! We ordered the corn soup, tacos, tostada, burger, vegan rice bowl, and both desserts. Everything was delicious but in particular, the corn soup, burger, and rice bowl were top notch. The burger was a perfect smashburger (we added an extra patty for an additional $4 which was worth it), and the fries were really good too. I'm usually not one for truffle fries, but their fries weren't overseasoned at all. Also, you should definitely order their hot sauces! They were such a great addition to the dishes, and our favorites were the fresno chili and garlic, the pineapple habanero, and ranch (not a hot sauce but still delicious). If I could buy a jar of the fresno chili and garlic hot sauce, I 10000% would.
We tried getting a table on a Saturday, and the wait was over 2.5 hours. Tried again on a Wednesday, and still waited 2 hours. It was worth the wait. Recommend hitting Coupe & Flute a couple blocks down for a champagne flight. With the old school hip hop blaring and ambiant lighting, it feels as if you're invited to hangout with your older brother and his cool friends. Except this time they're cooking up some of the best plates in Seattle. The wine list was impressive, they have Chenin Blancs heading South from France to South Africa. Cocktails in Corona bottles. Tropical notes blended to foreshadow what was to come. Boy did it come. A consonance of staples with Guamanian twists, the kind that leave your plate clean and has you asking for seconds. Words don't do this place justice. But trust me, there's a reason folks are lining up the block.
